Transcript for: SCHOOL FOCUSED Strategy

Very recently, I've been involved in a staff development initiative providing some fairly sustained staff development over a period of several weeks for a group of 40 people who were a mixture of Heads and Deputy Heads. Our evaluations suggest that it was an experience that was relatively successful as judged by the participants, and also perhaps more importantly, as judged by some of the work they subsequently produced. Looking back on that, I think the elements that made for success were, first of all, the fact that it was very much activity based; that there was a small proportion of lecture dominated material, and quite a high proportion of group dominated, or indeed individual or paired activity. So, I think that was one element in its success. A second element in its success was the fact that it was very firmly rooted in what these people are expected to do back in their own schools, so quite a high proportion of it was involved in them drawing up quite detailed plans about things that they were going to implement back in their schools.
