Lesley Cameron
Greg, we had a mid-session meeting; and we talked about what you felt you had learned so far in the school. And that was important because as a new member of staff, I wanted to find out what your feelings were, and what you felt your needs were as well. And also because this was the first time you had taken a Primary 1 class on. Now we are at the end of this session; what are your feelings about what you've learned up until now?
----------
Greg Welsh:
I think this year's been a steep learning curve for myself. Having never had Primary 1, I've learned a lot about transition from nursery to primary and the progression and continuity required from the 3 to 5 curriculum to 5 to 14
Lesley Cameron:
How did you come about that? What helped you in that learning process?
Greg Welsh:
In the learning process, a lot of support from the principal teacher that was based in Primary 1, who had Primary 1 experience; support from the nursery staff as well; and also taking home a lot of reading material, to bring myself up to speed with transition
Lesley Cameron:
So really what we're talking about is team working together?
Greg Welsh:
Yes; it was worked very very closely
Lesley Cameron:
And learning from each other. You also went on a best practice visit as well
Greg Welsh:
Yes, we implemented a resource from a different local authority, so we visited another school to have a look at what they were doing, and how they implemented the resource. And we brought back that knowledge, and devised our own plan for it
